Enjoy a day at Boston's zoo! Boston locals have enjoyed going to the zoo for longer than most cities in the United States. The Franklin Park Zoo is one of the oldest zoos in the country dating back to its founding in 1913. The 72 acre park is located in the northern part of Franklin Park, Boston's largest public park and considered to be the "crown jewel" of the Emerald Necklace park system. 

At the Franklin Park Zoo, visitors of all ages can enjoy rare and exotic animals from all over the world right here in Boston. Many of the creatures are endangered. Exhibits include: 

Serengeti Crossing - a four acre rolling grassland featuring animals of the African savannah. Animals include ostrich, Grant's zebras, Nubian ibex, and white-bearded wildebeests. 

Franklin Farm - the children's favorite area of the Franklin Park Zoo. Visitors can enjoy an up close experience with animals typically found on farms such as pigs, cows, goats and ponies. 

Kalahari Kingdom - see and hear the king of the jungle roar! In this section the Franklin Park Zoo, the lions reign. 

Tiger Tales - featuring Franklin Park Zoo's tigers, Anala and Luther, tells the story and educates the public of how endangered creatures are becoming victims to poaching throughout the world. 

Tropical Forest - Immerse yourself in a tropical forest and surround yourself with thousands of exotic tropical plants. Discover animals that live in this type of environment including western lowland gorillas, mandrills, capybaras, Baird's tapir, pygmy hippopotamus, and dozens of free-flight birds. 

Butterfly Landing - Open during the summer, the Butterfly Landing at the Franklin Park Zoo is an outdoor tented exhibit home to nearly 1,000 butterflies. 

Outback Trail - Explore the a little slice of Australia at the Franklin Park Zoo. The Outback Trail showcases numerous species native to Australia including kangaroos, emus, sheep, cockatoo, kookaburras, and tree kangaroos. 

Bird's World - Experience the beauty of flight in the Franklin Park Zoo's oldest exhibit buildings. Built in 1913, and one of the original buildings of the Franklin Park Zoo, here you will find indigenous birds from several regions such as the swamp, scrublands, and wetlands

Summer Hours (April 1 - September 30) 

10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. weekdays 

10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. weekends and major holidays 

Winter Hours (October 1 - March 31) 

10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. daily
